Würzburg, in Germany, is world-renowned for its "Franken" wines. However, White (Wheat) Beers have certainly travelled to the city. The three different ones shown here are excellent examples. All are brewed in the city's Würzburger Hofbräu Brewery. Click on the glasses to go to the brewery's website, from which the image was pasted

Unless stated otherwise, the photos featured on this White Beer Travels web page were taken by Joyce White, wife of John White of "White Beer Travels". For links to the pages of John's "White Beer Travels" website, see the top or bottom of the page.

The photo to the left shows, from left to right, John White, Tim Webb (of Good Beer Guide Belgium fame, www.booksaboutbeer.com, White Beer Travels Web page), Geoff Kermeen and Alex Mears in front of the GBBF's International Beer Bar (Bières Sans Frontières, www.b-s-f.org.uk). During this drinking session, I was introduced to the magnificent Dogfish 90 Minute IPA (see www.dogfish.com), from the USA, one of many rare beers that are available at this don't-miss beer stall.

Above is another photo in front of the GBBF Foreign Beer Stall. It features, from left to right, John White, Tim Webb, JezzaP, Yvan De Baets and Dan Shelton. Yvan is associated with the Cantillon brewery in Brussels (www.cantillon.be, White Beer Travels Web page), guardians of the Lambic brewing tradition. Indeed, he assisted at Lorenzo Dabove's Lambic Beer Tasting, see below, at the GBBF. Yvan, along with Bernard Leboucq, runs the "Brasserie de la Senne" (De Zenne Brouwerij) (www.brasseriedelasenne.be). Yvan is the co-organiser, with Bernard, of the excellent Bruxellensis Beer Festival (www.festivalbruxellensis.be, White Beer Travels Web page). Dan Shelton is part of "Shelton Brothers", a company which imports beer, including Cantillon, into the USA, see the website, www.sheltonbrothers.com. This contains much detail on the Cantillon beers, that is not to be found on the brewery's own site; far more information is provided on the excellent Shelton Brothers site than is the norm for beer importers' and sellers' sites.

Your cursor is on a photo featuring Nora, a truly superb beer from Birrificio Le Baladin (Piazza 5 Luglio, 15, Piozzo, Italy. Tel 0173 795431). Click on the photo to go to Le Baladin's website

The above photo shows, from left to right, Lorenzo Dabove, John White and Nick Bersinger, behind and in front of the Foreign Beer Stall (Bières Sans Frontières), at the GBBF. The beer is Nora (7%). This is an organic beer from "Le Baladin", a Brew Pub in Piozzo, Italy, see www.birreria.com. and White Beer Travels Web page. Nora's magnificent "Dom Pérignon"-shaped bottle matches the beer's superb quality. Next to no hops are used to produce this beer, since its recipe is an ancient Egyptian one. Note the poster in the background of Ninkasi, a Goddess of Beer, part of a CAMRA promotion to encourage women to drink Real Ale (Cask Ale) (c.f. the Ninkasi Brew-Pub, in Lyon, France, www.ninkasi.fr). Lorenzo Dabove, is a stalwart of the "Beer without Frontiers" stall. Lorenzo has his own website, www.kuaska.be (English-language version), www.kuaska.it (Italian version). Click here for a White Beer Travels Web page dedicated to Lorenzo. Nick Bersinger is from Lausanne, in Switzerland. He is a prominent member of the Swiss beer consumers' organisation, ABO, the Association des Buveurs d'Orges (Barley Drinkers' Association), www.abo-ch.org.

The phot above was taken soon after leaving the GBBF, in The White Horse (1-3 Parson's Green, London, SW6 4UL, tel 020 7736 2115, www.whitehorsesw6.com, GPS: 51.474257o N, 0.200559o W), a justly famous British and foreign beer bar. Pictured, from left to right, are John White, Paulette & Thom Aikman, and Josh Oakes. John has a Dupont Moinette Blonde (see www.brasserie-dupont.com). Josh is Editor-in-Chief of the highly regarded ratebeer website, www.ratebeer.com. Click here for a page in RateBeer's Forums page where Josh states "John White rocks. His thoroughness and knowledge is supreme".

The photo, to the left, was taken by by John White, in The White Horse, which the locals call Sloanie Pony, shows Joyce White and Matthew Wilson (MatW). Matthew, from Brentwood, was having a break from serving at the Foreign Beer Stall at the GBBF. London pubs of special merit, such as The White Horse, are featured in the eighty-three page White Beer Travels Notes on London Pubs that can be obtained from the Downloads page of the site.
